Vooara Resort

8 Beachfront Bungalows & 1 Beach Pool Villa | Secluded Island Retreat | Wabi-Sabi Minimalism

Voaara Madagascar is a secluded luxury resort located on Sainte-Marie Island (Nosy Boraha), off the northeast coast of Madagascar. Opened in September 2024, the resort offers a refined blend of barefoot elegance, eco-conscious architecture, and immersive cultural experiences, created by Swedish hotelier Philippe Kjellgren.

Location & Concept

Set on 100 acres of pristine coastline, Voaara embodies a minimalist design aesthetic influenced by wabi-sabi principles, highlighting imperfection and simplicity. Its name combines two Malagasy words: “Voarara” (sacred) and “Voara” (nature/fruit), reflecting the property’s deep respect for natural beauty and local heritage. The resort was developed as a luxury escape that prioritizes authenticity and harmony with the environment.

Accommodations

Voaara features just eight accommodations, ensuring privacy and exclusivity. These include seven beachfront bungalows and one expansive three-bedroom beach pool villa.

  • Beachfront      Bungalows: These      one- and two-bedroom units are designed with natural materials such as      driftwood, thatched roofs, and locally woven raffia. Each includes      open-air bathrooms, rainfall showers, hand-carved furniture, and      thoughtful details like Nespresso machines and Marshall Bluetooth      speakers.

  • Three-Bedroom      Beach Pool Villa: Ideal      for families or groups, this villa offers panoramic ocean views, a private      infinity pool, and expansive indoor-outdoor living areas with designer      furnishings and local accents.

Dining

Voaara’s culinary experience merges global flavors with local ingredients, under the direction of chefs Aleixandre Sarrion from Spain and Jean Notia Vincent from Madagascar.

  • La Plage by Sarrion: The main beachfront restaurant serving creative Mediterranean-Asian fusion cuisine using freshly sourced ingredients.

  • Le Grill: A more relaxed setting offering grilled seafood and local produce cooked over coconut husks.

  • Franco’s Bar: An open-air lounge for craft cocktails and light bites, with a signature piña colada made from fresh pineapple and local rum.

Special experiences include sushi dinners in a treetop “bird’s nest” and private beachside meals under the stars.
